The Department of Biology offers assistantships to full time students
to help defray the cost of tuition and provide a stipend. New
applicants are invited to apply for one or more of the following
assistantships.
Minimum requirements: A minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and 2.75 in
Biology is required for assistantship consideration. Completed
applications for Assistantships must be received by April 15 for fall
semester and October 15 for spring semester.
1. Biology 100 Assistantships
These assistantships offer a full tuition waiver, plus pays
an annual stipend of $7,500. The requirements include tutoring in our
introductory non-major Biology course which are virtual computer
laboratories. These assistantships involve working in lab for
approximately 12 hours per week in each of the spring and fall
semesters. In addition, included in the 12 hours, the student must
maintain 3 office hours per week in our general computer lab.
2. Half-time Ecology Assistantship
This assistantship offers a two-thirds tuition waiver, plus
pays an annual stipend of $2,500. Responsibilities include assisting
with labs and field trips for BIO 270 (General Ecology), including
setting up and breaking down equipment, driving vans on field trips,
and helping to demonstrate techniques to students. Approximately 20
hours/week.
