SNAKE SURVEYERS SOUGHT PDF Print E-mail
Great Basin National Park will hire 1-3 seasonal biological science technicians for summer field work. Jobs will begin in May and end in September. Primary duties are the inventory of sagebrush associated wildlife species and their habitats. Job duties include: visual surveys for marmots, mountain kingsnakes, and pigmy rabbits; capture-release and pitfall trapping surveys for small mammal species; and line intercept, visibility, and belt transects for vegetation attributes. Personnel are expected to hike long distances carrying heavy packs over steep rugged terrain. Backcountry camping is also expected. Duties will consist
of 90% field work and 10% data entry. Great Basin National Park is located in eastern White Pine County Nevada. Known for Lehman Caves, ancient bristlecone pines, and Wheeler Peak (13,063 feet), Great Basin also has superb backcountry hiking, pristine alpine lakes and meadows, 12 perennial trout streams, over 300 perennial springs, extensive spruce forests, and excellent examples of island biogeography,
competitive exclusion, and niche partitioning.

Government housing may be available. Nearby communities include Baker and Garrison. Nearest grocery facilities are in Ely (70 miles), Delta (100 miles), and Cedar City (120 miles).
